ContinuServe is seeking a hands-on HR Generalist to join a mission-driven team in our nonprofit division. This dynamic role spans the full spectrum of HR functions, from talent acquisition and retention to compensation, benefits, and compliance. We are looking for a proactive professional ready to dive into performance management, employee relations, and HR development.

As a key advocate for both client management and employees, you will interpret policies, administer programs, and provide creative solutions. This is a client-facing role where you will build and maintain strong working relationships with multiple ContinuServe clients and serve as the subject matter expert across all HR functions.

This hybrid position requires client site visits and on-site support in the Northern Illinois suburbs (Grayslake and Buffalo Grove) 2–3 days a week. Key Responsibilities:
  • Partner with the client engagement team including, Manager and Director to execute workflows, timelines, deliverables, and HR initiatives.
  • Meet or exceed established service level agreements (SLAs) by responding to inquiries, resolving HR matters, and delivering high-quality projects and reports.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to employees and leaders by providing guidance on HR policies, procedures, best practices, and employee relations matters.
  • Lead full-cycle recruitment activities in collaboration with the Talent Acquisition team, including workforce planning, candidate selection, interviewing, and onboarding support.
  • Provide guidance and support throughout the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, performance management, employee development, leave administration, and offboarding.
  • Administer and continuously improve HR processes and systems, including new hire orientation, background screenings, performance management programs, leave of absence administration, workers’ compensation, and compliance audits.
  • Conduct workplace investigations and resolve complex employee relations issues with professionalism, objectivity, and confidentiality.
  • Support benefits administration, including 403(b) retirement plans, open enrollment, and employee inquiries.
  • Prepare, analyze, and present HR metrics, reports, and workforce analytics to clients and the client director to support informed decision-making.
  • Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws, regulatory requirements, industry trends, and HR best practices to ensure compliance and effective client support.
  • Contribute to a high-performing HR consulting environment by identifying opportunities for process improvement, operational efficiency, and enhanced client service delivery.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field
  • 4+ years of progressive HR experience, with demonstrated success in all areas of employee relations (i.e., hiring practices, training and onboarding, development, mediation, investigations, benefits enrollment, etc.)
  • Previous experience with a nonprofit organization and/or knowledge of the health and human services sector
  • Strong knowledge of HR principles, federal and state employment law and regulations, and HRIS systems, including workers' compensation and risk management
  • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills with employees and all levels of management; able to create a working environment of open communication and trust
  • Highly detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and multi-tasking abilities
  • Advanced problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Experience with project management tools and applicant tracking systems
  • Ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the organization, as well as with multiple clients
  • Adaptability to handle the evolving needs of a dynamic workforce
  • Strategic mindset with a focus on process improvement
  • Passion for creating an exceptional employee experience
Nice to have:
  • SHRM, HRCI, or similar professional HR certification
  • Experience managing DCFS HR compliance, including audit and reporting requirements.
  • Experience in an HR consulting environment and/or fractional HR space

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation: Starting salary range: $65,000 - $80,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
