What This Role Looks Like
Our Accounting Managers/Senior Accounting Managers serve as trusted partners to nonprofit clients, acting as the primary liaison for financial strategy, oversight, and execution. This is a client-facing leadership role where you’ll help organizations strengthen their financial operations and make informed decisions that support their mission and long-term success.

Here’s what you can expect in a Director of Accounting role within our team:
Key Responsibilities
Client Partnership & Financial Leadership
- Serve as the primary point of contact for day-to-day client accounting needs and build strong, collaborative relationships with client stakeholders.
- Partner closely with client leadership and assigned CFOs/Controllers to support engagement goals and accounting priorities.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations based on an understanding of client operations, including opportunities to improve efficiency and address budget variances.
- Address client questions and concerns proactively, ensuring timely resolution and a high level of service.
- Support the full accounting cycle for nonprofit clients, including transaction review, month-end close activities, and journal entry preparation.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and financial reports for client leadership.
- Assist in developing organizational and grant budgets in collaboration with senior accounting team members and client stakeholders.
- Support cash management activities and help clients monitor financial performance against budgets and expectations.
- Support grant and funding administration activities, including budget revisions, expenditure tracking, reporting, vouchering, and allowability reviews.
- Help ensure compliance with financial regulations, funding requirements, and client reporting obligations.
- Deliver technical accounting support, including areas such as GAAP revenue recognition and lease accounting.
- Assist with annual financial audits and funding audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and supporting materials.
- Evaluate financial processes and recommend improvements that increase efficiency, effectiveness, and consistency.
- Leverage technology, accounting best practices, and standardized procedures to strengthen client financial operations.
- Support the adoption of client policies and procedures to help mitigate financial risk and maintain strong internal controls.
- Contribute to financial assessments and operational reviews that help clients strengthen their accounting functions.
- Review accounting support team work for accuracy and provide guidance to ensure quality and consistency.
- Oversee assigned team deliverables and help ensure work is completed accurately and on time.
- Provide mentoring, training, and developmental support to team members.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (with accounting/finance focus)
- 5+ years of accounting or finance experience
- Experience working with nonprofit organizations
- Experience managing project accounting across multiple initiatives
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local grant administration, including compliance and budgeting
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and business acumen
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, including experience working with senior leadership
- CPA license
- MBA
- Experience in a consulting or business process outsourcing (BPO) environment
- Advanced knowledge of accounting systems and Excel
Work Environment
These are hybrid opportunities, with a mix of remote work and on-site presence at client locations.
